Gallipoli – a foreign incursion in a war which was supposed to be the war to end all wars. Pity about the dodgy treaty – never trust a polly. But seriously most soldiers weren’t even conscripts so what was their reason for abandoning their families for the Glory of the fading British Empire? I guess they got taught to hate Jerry and the steady diet of patriotism and the need for a living wage sealed the bargain. Nothing’s changed though has it? We get taught to hate someone enough to go out and kill em’ eh? And by ‘we’ I mean the royal we. No war dudes. As for patriotism, if it means the mantra of the toxic dwarf you can stick it in the bin. After all rampant nationalism is a form of racism in that it attempts to establish the superiority of one group of people over another as race in part is a construction of the state. It’s a shame the Communist Manifesto wasn’t a bit more peaceful in it’s recommended methods because it’s analysis of society is spot on but what are you gunna do? Play chess at the G8 with Mr Putin?
